Romans 8:31
What then shall we say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
Romans 8:31 is a powerful statement of the Apostle Paul in his letter to the Romans. In this verse, Paul is reminding believers that God is on their side and that no one can successfully oppose them if God is with them.
The phrase "these things" that Paul refers to in the verse refers to the various trials and difficulties that believers face in life. Throughout the earlier parts of Romans 8, Paul discusses the reality of suffering and how it can often feel like we are facing insurmountable odds. He reminds us that even in the midst of these trials, God is with us, working for our good.
Therefore, when Paul asks the question, "If God is for us, who can be against us?" he is saying that if we have the Creator of the universe on our side, then nothing and no one can ultimately defeat us. It doesn't mean that we won't face opposition or difficulty, but rather that we can have confidence and hope that we will ultimately triumph because God is with us.
This verse is an encouragement to believers to trust in God and to have confidence in His power and goodness. We can face any challenge or obstacle with the knowledge that God is for us and will help us to overcome.
