Daily Bible Quote On Giving Thanks

Daily Bible Quote On Giving Thanks

Colossians 3:17 ESV
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Colossians 3:17 is part of a larger passage where the apostle Paul is instructing the Colossian Christians on how to live as followers of Christ. In the verses preceding Colossians 3:17, St.Paul urges them to put off their old self with its practices and put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator (Colossians 3:9-10).

He encourages them to embody virtues such as compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, patience, forgiveness, and above all, love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony (Colossians 3:12-14).

The verse Colossians 3:17 serves as a guiding principle for their conduct. It emphasizes that in every aspect of life, whether in speech or action, Christians should do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus. This means that their words and deeds should be guided by their faith in Christ. They are to act and speak in a manner that honors and represents the character and teachings of Jesus.

The idea of doing everything in the name of the Lord Jesus implies acknowledging His authority over every aspect of life. Christians are called to glorify God through their actions and speech, recognizing that they represent Christ to the world. Moreover, the verse emphasizes the importance of gratitude by instructing believers to give thanks to God the Father through Jesus.

In the context of Colossians, St.Paul is urging us to live our lives in a manner consistent with our faith, allowing the principles of Christ to guide our behavior, decisions, and interactions with others. The overarching theme is to live in a way that reflects our relationship with Christ and to express gratitude to God for all things through Jesus.
